Wu Zhiyuan is a doctoral candidate at Akademia Muzyczna im. Grażyny i Kiejstuta Bacewiczów w Łodzi, studying under Łukasz Wojcicki. He is a member of the Guangdong Provincial Wind Music Association, the Shenzhen Youth Musicians Association, and the Shenzhen Pingshan District Musicians Association, and a certified saxophone teacher on the China Orchestral Network. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in saxophone from the Orchestral Department of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and a master's degree in saxophone performance from the Szymanowski Conservatory of Music in Poland, studying under Professor Bartłomiej Duś. In 2024, he was shortlisted for the Andorra International Saxophone Competition, and in 2025, he was shortlisted for the Düsseldorf International Wind Music Competition in Germany.

He started learning the saxophone at the age of nine. At thirteen, he studied under Dong Jun, a young saxophonist and postgraduate student in France. At eighteen, he was mentored by Qu Yimin, a young performer and graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts in Japan. In 2017, he was admitted to the saxophone performance program at Xinghai Conservatory of Music, where he served as an assistant saxophone teacher during his university years. He studied saxophone quartet and saxophone ensemble with Professor Xu Letao, director of the Wind and Percussion Department at Xinghai Conservatory of Music, under the guidance of Lei Zhaoyu, a performer based in the United States. In 2021, he graduated from the saxophone music performance program at Xinghai Conservatory of Music in China. That same year, he was admitted to the postgraduate saxophone performance program at the Katowice Conservatory of Music in Poland, studying under Professor Bartłomiej Duś.

Wu Zhiyuan has received guidance from several renowned masters at home and abroad, including Professor Li Manlong, a famous saxophonist from China; Nikita Zimin, a famous Russian saxophonist; Łukasz Wojcicki, a famous Polish saxophonist; Nicolas Arsenijevic, a famous French saxophonist; and Lin Jiankuan, a famous American saxophonist.
During his undergraduate studies, he actively participated in chamber music performances and learning under the guidance of Professors Xu Letao and Lei Zhaoyu. In 2017, he performed in the reprise at the opening ceremony of the first "Wind and Percussion" Art Week at Xinghai Conservatory of Music. In 2018, he held solo and ensemble concerts with the theme "When Classical Meets Pop" and "When Classical Meets Pop Again" at the Kaiping City Cultural Center in Guangdong Province, China. In 2019, Wu Zhiyuan performed solo and ensemble pieces at the opening ceremony of the International Summer Camp in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. That same year, I participated in the teaching practice series of the Xinghai Conservatory of Music's Orchestral Department, performing with the Xinghai Conservatory of Music and China Conservatory of Music Ensemble. In 2019, he also performed at the "Romantic Night" saxophone concert during the "Me and My Motherland" -730 Art Season in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China. In 2021, he took part in the "Blossoming Magnolia" art popularization charity performance in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China, featuring the October Reflections Saxophone Chamber Concert.

During his postgraduate studies in Poland, he actively participated in ensemble and orchestra performances. In 2023, he performed at the 4th Polish Saxophone Conference Concert held at the Wroclaw Conservatory's Saxophone Ensemble Concert. On January 27,2024, he successfully held a solo concert. On January 31,2024, he performed as a guest musician with the Katowice National Radio Symphony Orchestra at their concert hall, playing Gershwin and Bernstein's works. On March 16,2024, he participated in the 9th Nouvelle Étoiles International Music Competition winner's concert at Paris' Sainte-Élisabeth Church with a string orchestra, performing Grigory Grazunov's Saxophone Concerto. In April 2024, he was invited to the 3rd International Gloria Artist Talent Festival. On May 11,2024, he performed at the Palais Ehrbar Concert Hall in Vienna, collaborating with conductor Murat Sumer and the Vienna City Symphony Orchestra for Grigory Grazunov's Saxophone Concerto. On June 16,2024, he held another solo concert. In August 2024, he was interviewed by Maestro Magazine. On April 12,2025, he was invited to perform as a soloist at the award ceremony of an international competition in Berlin Philharmonic Chamber Concert Hall.
