Born in Rio de Janeiro on November 12, 1980, Josué Lopez learned his first guitar chords at age 12 from his father, João Ferreira. Soon after, he began studying music theory at the Assembleia de Deus Church in Penha, with Professor Nelson Monteiro.
At the age of 15, he moved to Fortaleza (CE), where his uncle, saxophonist Samuel Lopez, encouraged him to study music. He studied and played in the bands of Colégio Pia Marta and Colégio Júlia Jorge in Fortaleza.
