Jean-Michel BERTELLI studied in the class of Thomas Friedli at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Genève where he received the First Prize of virtuosity « with distinction ».

After this, he is also prize-winner of Internationals Competitions such as the International Competition of ICA (International Clarinet Society) in USA and the International Clarinet Competition in Toulon (France).

He has subsequently been in demand as soloist and chamber musician in Europe, USA, Japon, New-Zealand. He played with Britten Quartet, Vertavo Quartet, Florestan Quartet, Tchaı̈kovski Trio, Pierre-Laurent Aimard and many Orchestras like Virginia Symphony
Orchestra, Czech National Orchestra, Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Hallé Orchestra, Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra etc… conducted by Kent Nagano, Paul Polivnick, Paul Freeman, William Christie, Jan Jakub Bokun…

He played the world premiere of a concerto dedicated by the American composer Richard Felciano in California and recorded in Prague for Albany Records.

From 1999 to 2003, invited by Sir John-Eliot Gardiner, he was principal clarinet of The English Baroque Soloists in London.

Solicited by many instrumentals factories, Jean-Michel Bertelli is soloist for Yamaha Music Europe since 1994, international artist for D’Addario since 2008, and collaborate with BG-France. This conduce him to make many récitals and masters-class in the world.
(Europe, Asie, USA).

In 2008, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam invites him as solo clarinet for a series of concerts.

Until 2020, Jean-Michel Bertelli was also Principal Clarinet of the Lyon National Opera Orchestra.
