Dr. Javier Valerio is widely recognized worldwide as one of the pioneers and leaders of classical saxophone in Latin America. He is one the first saxophonists in Costa Rica and Latin America to obtain a Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate in his discipline.

Valerio currently serves as the Professor of Saxophone at the University of Costa Rica, Founding President of ALASAX (Latin American Alliance of Saxophonists), Secretary of the prestigious International Saxophone Committee, and Director of the Sax Fest Costa Rica International. After graduating in 1993 from the Indiana University School of Music, studying under the internationally renowned saxophonist Eugene Rousseau, Valerio returned to his home country, Costa Rica. Since 1994, he has been a Professor of Saxophone, Director of the Instrumental Department, Coordinator of the Wind and Percussion Section, and Coordinator of the Chamber Music course at the School of Musical Arts at the University of Costa Rica. Additionally, Dr. Valerio has served as Director and Founder of the Sax Fest Costa Rica International, a member of the International Saxophone Committee (ISC), and a founding member of the renowned saxophone and percussion quintet, SONSAX.

Valerio has served as Professor of Classical Saxophone at Florida International University School of Music, New World School of the Arts in Miami, and the University of Kansas, and as a member of the Florida Saxophone Quartet. He has also been very active in the popular music scene, performing with jazz bands, combos, and Latin ensembles over the years.

Valerio has been invited to perform as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, the Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic, the Symphony Orchestra of the Castella Conservatory, and other orchestras and symphonic bands in various Latin American countries. He has performed numerous times at World Saxophone Congresses, the North American Saxophone Alliance, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and numerous major festivals in Latin America.

Valerio has been invited as a jury member for international saxophone competitions, including the Adolph Sax International Competition in Dinant, Belgium, and the Marcel Mule Saxophone Competition in Mexico and many others. AAs a soloist and member of SONSAX, Valerio has traveled, offering recitals, clinics, masterclasses, and concerts in countries such as Russia, Croatia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, United States, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, France, Spain, Germany, Scotland, Switzerland, Belgium, Mexico, Central America, and Panama.
