Giuseppe Laterza is an artist for Henri Selmer Paris and BG France, representing a generation of saxophonists driven by curiosity and a deep desire to expand the expressive and technical potential of their instrument.
« In my career and in my musical life, the BG Savoir Faire is always present »
Giuseppe Laterza serves as a saxophonist with the Italian Air Force Band and was a Quality Certificateur for Henri Selmer Paris until 2016. An active concert performer and composer, his works for saxophone are published by Universal Edition and DaVinci Publishing.
With the aim of bringing the saxophone closer to the great chamber music repertoire, he recorded for Brilliant Classics the album “Ceci n’est pas un saxophone” in duo with pianist Francesca Bandiera. The recording is dedicated to three major works by Grieg, Prokofiev, and Fauré. He has also recorded for the label Notami and performs in duo with Apulian organist Alfredo Luigi Cornacchia and Sicilian accordionist Mario Romeo.
Giuseppe collaborates with the Orchestra of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, where he has performed under the baton of conductors Donato Renzetti, David Levy, and Wayne Marshall.
« I started with the legendary “Super Revelation” and today I can’t do without the “Tradition” family. It gives my sound safety and homogeneity, lightness and power »
He graduated with highest honors in Saxophone from the Conservatory “E.R. Duni” in Matera and subsequently moved to France to continue his studies, first with Jean-Yves Fourmeau at the Conservatory of Cergy-Pontoise (Paris), and later in the class of the French saxophonist Vincent David at the Conservatory of Versailles. There, he was unanimously awarded the “Prix de Saxophone” as well as a postgraduate diploma with distinction.
Deeply committed to pedagogy and artistic openness, Giuseppe regularly gives masterclasses in Italy and abroad. In 2020, he published a pedagogical guide entitled “Sound and Technique of the Saxophone” (Universal Edition).
As the dedicatee of several new compositions, he has performed as a soloist at the 17th World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg (France) and at the 3rd European Saxophone Congress in Trento. He is a founding member of the Jeune Saxophone Quartet and the Ensemble Exigentia, and since 2015 he has been the artistic director of the International Exigentia Saxophone Competition.
« A touch of professionalism that only BG can give me »
He graduated with highest honors (110/110 cum laude) in Chamber Music from the Conservatory “Santa Cecilia” in Rome, where he also obtained a Second-Level Master’s Degree in Contemporary Music Performance.
