Basilio Merlino graduated at the top of his class and he achieved a Master of saxophone performance at the National Music Conservatory in Palermo in July 2010. Interested in the French School of Saxophone, he completed his studies with Gilles Tressos and Christophe Bois at the Centre d’Etudes Supérieur de Musique et Danse (CESMD) de Poitou-Charentes in 2013.

In June 2016, he got a Diploma of Saxophone performance and a Diploma of saxophone teaching. He has been improving his skills studying with Fabrizio Mancuso,
Sylvain Malezieux, Jean-Denis Michat, Arno Bornkamp, Jean-Yves Formeau. He has performed with several chamber ensembles, including Escualo Saxophone quartet, I sassofonisti del Mediterraneo, The Saxophone quartet. He has recently performed at festivals in different countries, including the “Art’s week festival of Shenzen” (2013 – China), the “Saxophone en mouvement festival” of Poitiers (2014 – France), the “17th world saxophone congress of Strasbourg” (2015 – France), the “18th World saxophone congress”. In 2018, he performed in Zagreb (Croatia) and in Paris (Musée d’Orsay and Musée Bourdelle).
He is a founder member of the saxophone duo “Siké”, with whom he performed Stefano Gervasoni’s and Giuseppe Mazzamuto’s unpublished works. He is an ANBIMA teacher for regional courses in Sicily and he is the creator of the artistic and didactic project, called “I Week-end del saxofono”. He was a saxophone teacher at the conservatory Paris Vallée de la Marne (France). Nowadays, he teaches saxophone at the secondary music school in Italy (MIUR).
